Spending Review 2010
Latest update on the Comprehensive Spending Review 2010
Chief Constable Stephen Otter
Along with others across the public sector, we are currently planning to cope with reduced government funding announced by the Chancellor.
For the last year we have been involved in extensive consultation both internally and externally in planning ahead and finding ways of giving the public a top policing service, but with less resources.
The Comprehensive Spending Review has indicated a 4 per cent reduction in each of the next four years for police forces.
Positive steps have already been taken to try and maintain frontline police officers and look at the ways in which we can work more efficiently.
Chief Constable Stephen Otter said: “The figures published indicate we need to make cuts of £40 million over the next four years.
“Cuts of this magnitude mean that we will have to consider the services we give to the public ensuring that those who need us most are prioritised.
“Work on our blueprint will continue with its goal to ensure that, across the force, the right people are in the right jobs at the right time.
“I am proud the communities we serve tell us we do a good job and that Devon and Cornwall is one of the safest places to live in England and Wales.
“We will continue to give the best possible service to the communities we serve.”
