Any ideas on where this picture was taken on the Cornish coast while the crew were on an operational task this morning?

Police Helicopter locates and extracts 7 lost hikers from Dartmoor

 22-04-2013 02:05:00Air Operations Unit

At 1630 on Sunday afternoon the Police were contacted by a team of walkers practising for the Ten Tors competition. The 7, 14 year old boys from a school in Wiltshire had become disorientated in low cloud. The boys, who were overdue in meeting up with their teachers, realised that they needed assistance and sensibly stopped walking in the worsening conditions. Local officers in a landrover commenced a search for the boys and later requested assistance from the Police Helicopter based at Exeter.

The helicopter crew searched the moor in the area of 'Hangingstone Hill' and located the boys safe and well near 'Great Kneeset'. As the conditions were deteriorating fast the helicopter lifted the boys and their kit from the moor, making 2 flights to and from Okehampton military camp, where they were reunited with their teachers.

With the annual Ten Tors event fastly approaching, this is a timely reminder that conditions on the moor can change very quickly. It is important that any walkers take appropriate precautions with regard to the kit they are carrying and ensuring their route card is left with a responsible person. In the event of getting lost, disorientated or injured, always remain together as a group.

Police helicopter assists in an accident at sea

 18-04-2013 21:30:00Air Operations Unit

The Police helicopter was this evening called to assist the South Western Ambulance Service in rapidly transporting a male casualty from Exmouth docks to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after an unconscious male was pulled from the water following a boating accident at sea. After the early intervention of Exmouth RNLI and the Ambulance Service, he was transported by air to hospital where medics continued to treat him.

The Police helicopter crews work closely with the Ambulance Service and RNLI amongst other agencies and are able to provide a quicker access to medical and trauma care in comparison to conveyance by road for serious or potentially life threatening incidents.
