What do police cadets do?
We will help our cadets to develop valuable life skills such as communication, team working and an understanding of community issues.
Our cadets will be taught about the law, police procedures (e.g. arrest, custody, missing people, radio procedure), and they will get the opportunity to learn about what some of our specialist units do.

We will also provide training in First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR - emergency procedure for people in cardiac arrest) and the recovery position.

Cadets might have the opportunity to assist local policing teams with:
- Attending family community events, fun days, or police events
- Letter drops
- Test purchasing of alcohol and cigarettes
- Graffiti cleaning
- Beach clean activities
- Crime prevention
- Attend royal events
What our cadets won’t do
- Direct traffic on a road
- Attend events where anti social behaviour is likely
- Go out on patrol or to incidents
- Work alone
- Won’t be used to replace a member of staff
- Won't undertake activities that require specialist safety equipment, without fully trained staff who are insured to instruct or supervise young people in such activities
- Cadets will not work with officers or volunteers who have not undertaken risk assessments
Information
“In cadets, I have enjoyed learning the caution, how to do police drill. I have made a lot of new friends, learning the phonetic alphabet and how to use /what to say when using the radios…”
