Bogus water board officials Redruth

Police are appealing for witnesses following a distraction burglary that occurred at approximately 11.30 a.m on Saturday 3 November 2012 on Close Hill, Redruth near the Fire Station.
A man attended the address posing as someone from the water board and asking the check the water. The elderly resident let the man in and it is believed that whilst this man distracted the victim another person entered her home and stole a quantity of cash.
The victim describes the first suspect as being a white man, approximately 5’2” tall of thin build, with short dark hair and clean shaven appearance. He is aged in his early 30’s and was wearing a dark green long sleeved jacket and grey coloured trousers/jeans.
If anybody has information about this incident, had anyone call at their address posing as a caller from the water board or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Close Hill area of Redruth between 11.00 a.m and 1 p.m. on Saturday the 3 November 2012 they are requested to contact DC Ryan Parker at Camborne Police Station on 101 quoting crime ref AC/12/4358 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The officer dealing with the crime, Detective Constable Ryan parker said, “We would like to remind residents to ensure that any callers from utility companies show their identification, especially those who arrive without an appointment.
“This may even mean ringing the company using a number from the phone book to confirm they have sent staff to your address, but a genuine employee from the company will be only too happy to wait.
“If a caller is unable to provide their identification then under no circumstances should they be allowed in. If in doubt, refuse them entry and call the police”.
