Helicopter rescue Umberleigh

At about 1.00 a.m. on Sunday 23 December 2012, a woman called 999 as she and her family had become trapped in flood water in their 4x4 near to the level crossing at Umberleigh.
The force helicopter (Oscar 99) lifted and assisted Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) to pinpoint their location.
On their arrival they saw a man and his son on top of the vehicle. They were subsequently rescued by a local farmer by tractor.
The woman had been washed away and was hanging onto branch of tree. The helicopter crew found the woman by using a heat seeking device and guided the fire service towards her in their rigid inflatable boat.
She was taken to safety almost an hour later.
