Mephedrone and the law

 

Mephedrone has been banned and made an illegal substance from Friday 16th April 2010.

The so called ‘legal high’, which is sold as plant fertilizer on the Internet, is now classified as a Class B drug.

Anyone found in possession of this substance could be prosecuted and face up to five years in prison. The maximum sentence for dealing mephedrone will be 14 years.

Members of the public in possession of the drug can take it into their local police station for its safe disposal.

Mephedrone, the drug linked to a number of teenage deaths in the UK in recent months is also known as meph, drone, MCAT, bubbles and most commonly, meow meow.
