Equality Impact Assessments

Our integrated Equality Scheme sets out what is meant by Equality Impact Assessments.

The Equality and Diversity Department has established a process whereby the owners of a given policy or change management activity can register their need for support in completing an Equality Impact Assessment. This is done using the force intranet system. The Equality and Diversity Dept will then allocate a senior advisor to meet with the owner of the issue within a two month period to help that person understand what is required and some of the Equality and Diversity issues relating to their particular area of business. We have also agreed to establish a system whereby the equality impact assessments that are carried out can be published on our force website if they are not classified as restricted documents under the Freedom of Information Act.

Since 2008 the Equality and Diversity department has provided advice to other departments on the following Equality Impact Assessments

  • Project Mercury, the procurement of a new command and control system
  • Force Youth Strategy
  • New posts in force performance dept
  • Training for part time staff
  • The fore Prevent plan. This is a strand of the governments Contest strategy and sets out some of our counter terrorist activity. In 2009 we ran an Independent Advisory Group conference which concentrated solely of seeking feedback on the EIA for the prevent agenda and updating it.
  • Senior Rank Review
  • Basic Command Unit Support Team review
  • New software for property management eg lost, stolen and found property registers
  • Firearms assets register review
  • Reasonable adjustments for those with disabilities – ICT review
  • Plymouth Headcam project
