BikeSafe
BikeSafe is an initiative run by police forces around the UK who work with the whole of the biking world to help to lower the number of motorcycle rider casualties. By passing on their knowledge, skills and experience, police motorcyclists can help you become a safer and more competent rider.
The remaining 2010 BikeSafe dates are listed below. If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, which are carried out at various venues across our force area, ring the number below.
- Exeter - 18 and 19 September
- Truro - 2 and 3 October
The BikeSafe sessions run by Devon and Cornwall Police are each one day in length, starting at about 10am and finishing around 4pm. They consist of an interactive classroom session in the morning looking at the main causes of potential collisions such as cornering, positioning and overtaking. This is followed by a break for lunch (which is sadly not provided) and then a three to three and a half hour on-road ride with constructive feedback given by the police motorcyclist. This is at a maximum ratio of two BikeSafe participants to one police motorcyclist but can sometimes be a one on one experience depending on numbers.
How much does it cost?
All of this for a mere £25. Vouchers are also available to give as a present to a friend or loved one to enable them to come on a BikeSafe session and benefit from the experience.
Riders with a home postcode in Cornwall will have their BikeSafe session paid for by their local authority.
