Motorcycle health check

Ensure your bike is roadworthy. Police encourage all bike riders to health check their bikes for road worthiness.

In conjunction with local dealers, we are continuing our campaign to encourage motorcyclists to look more closely at the mechanical state of their motorcycles.

While some riders use their machines frequently, others may not for long periods of time, or may even have more than one motorcycle leaving others neglected. Motorcycles (and mopeds) are especially vulnerable to light spills and low speed drops and it is highly likely that damage and natural ‘wear and tear’ can go unnoticed between MOTs with potentially fatal consequences.

It is all too easy to pick a bike up after a drop and give it a quick visual check without consulting a professional mechanic.

Motorcycles are frequently being used on the roads in Devon and Cornwall with defects that could be easily detected and rectified, such as binding or seized callipers, damaged brake discs, perished or damaged tyres, worn or damaged chains and sprockets and corrosion to electrical systems.

The dealers listed below are able to provide a safety check on your machine in order to give peace of mind for a fixed price of £20.

When contacting these garages please mention the ‘Devon and Cornwall Police Health Check.’ Should any work be identified, the £20 cost of your health check is redeemable against the work undertaken, provided that the total cost exceeds £20 and is undertaken by the same garage.
