Guidance to Insurance Companies seeking information from Devon & Cornwall Police.

In January 2005 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was drawn up between the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Association of British Insurers to deal with requests for information regarding insurance claims.

Section 4 of the MOU explains the process for how Insurers and Loss Adjusters can obtain information from the Police Service.  Section 4.1 states that:
Where requests are made they must be in the agreed format (Appendix D (a) and D (b))

The Appendix D (a) is for basic confirmation of the crime/lost property.  There is a fee for £20 for these requests and police forces will endeavour to respond in 10 working days.

The Appendix D (b) is for more detail and will incur a fee of £75.  Police forces will endeavour to reply in 20 working days.

In all cases the consent of the insured is required.

Cheques should be made payable to PCC Devon & Cornwall Police.

Within Devon & Cornwall Police these requests are sent to different offices based on the location of the incident.
