Fatal collision, Launceston


Man released under investigation

Police were called at 12pm on Monday 7 October to St Thomas Road, Launceston, following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported that following the collision with a pedestrian, the car collided with a lamppost, where it came to rest.

The pedestrian, a woman in hers 60s from Launceston was treated at the scene but sadly confirmed deceased a short time later. Her family have been informed.

The driver of the car was extracted by the Fire service and checked over by the Paramedics at the scene.

A 20-year-old man from Launceston was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Investigating officers are appealing for anyone with any information and anyone who was in the area and may have dash-cam footage to please contact police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 280 of Monday 7 October.
