Police advise motorists to avoid travel

Police car 3

Red warning in place until Friday

Motorists across Devon and Cornwall are urged to take extra care in the weather conditions expected over the coming days.

A number of Devon and Cornwall’s roads have been closed today due to the weather, including the A38, M5 and numerous smaller roads.

The Met Office have issued a red warning across parts of the county from 3pm until the early hours on tomorrow [Friday 2 March].

A multi-agency collaboration is underway to treat the roads, but advice remains to avoid travelling if possible.

If it is necessary for you to travel tonight, and you get stuck in the snow, here is the advice from Devon and Cornwall Police:

-         Keep your engine running

-         Put your hazard lights on

-         Keep your phone charged

-         Stay in the vehicle

-         Police will get to you as soon as possible
