Woman dies following A361 bridge fall


Police are appealing for witnesses

A woman has died following a fall from a bridge near Tiverton.

Police were called just before 4.40am on Wednesday 6 December with reports that a woman had fallen from the bridge on the A361 North Devon link Road between Sampford Peverell and Tiverton.

The road was closed as emergency services attended the incident, including support from Fire and the Police helicopter.

Police scenes of crime remain also attended the scene undertaking initial enquiries.

A 52-year-old local woman was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with injuries described as critical; she later died at hospital.

Her next of kin have been informed, but formal identification is yet to have taken place.

Police are undertaking enquiries into this death and are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with any information is asked to email quoting police log 0060 061217.

Police are not currently treating this death as suspicious.
