Cyclist seriously injured

A cyclist has been seriously injured following a collision at 5.45am this morning [Monday 19 February 2018].

Police received a report of a collision between a single vehicle and pedal cycle that occurred on the A376 between Clyst St George and Clyst St Mary near Exeter.

The vehicle was a black Ford Galaxy MPV which was driven by a man in his 50s from the Exmouth area.

The bike was a grey mountain bike ridden by a 27-year-old man, also from the Exmouth area. The rider of the mountain bike received serious head injuries and is in a life threatening condition at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The road was closed for around six hours whilst emergency services and Officers from the Roads Policing Team worked at the scene.

The weather at the time of the collision was dark, overcast and murky.

Potential witnesses, particularly those that saw a bike being cycled between Ebford and Clyst St Mary prior to the collision are urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101@dc.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting Log 74 of 19th February 2018.
