Sudden death, Torquay


Enquiries continue following death

Police enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man overnight in Torquay.

Police were called at around 9:35pm on Sunday 17 March following the concerns for the welfare of a resident on a property on Morgan Avenue, Torquay.

Ambulance, Fire and the Police attended and located a man in his 40’s outside and on the roof of a three-story building.

At around 10:55pm the man appeared to attempt to scale the drainpipe, before falling approximately 20 feet to the ground.

He was immediately taken to Torbay District Hospital where he was declared deceased; the man’s next of kin have been informed of this development.

A scene guard was put in place and enquiries continue on behalf of the coroner; this death is not being treated as suspicious.

As per the police protocols put in places for instances such as this, this matter will be referred to the Police Professional Standards Department, and in-turn to the IOPC for consideration.
