Five males bailed

Police are investigating a serious assault on a man in Plymouth in the early hours Saturday [11 July].

Officers and paramedics were called at 12.45am after a man was located seriously injured behind Gossip in Bilbury Street.

He had sustained a number of stab wounds after being assaulted by a group of men.

The 42-year-old man from Plymouth was treated at the scene and taken to Derriford Hospital.

His injuries are described as life-threatening and he remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Two men, one aged 27 and from Plympton, and the other, aged 30 from Plymouth, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH. They have both been released without charge.

A group of males ran from the scene and got into a vehicle in Southside Street. The vehicle was located in Saltash a short time later.

Two men, aged 21 and 18, and a 17-year-old boy, all from Saltash, were arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent. The 18-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, and possession of a Class A drug.

All three have been released on bail until 5 August.

Police later made two further arrests in connection with the incident. A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Saltash, were arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent. They are also bailed until 5 August.
