Serious sexual assault, St Austell
Victim is being supported
Police are investigating reports of a serious sexual assault in the Cemetery Park, High Cross Street, St Austell. The incident was reported to have taken place at around 2am on Sunday 11 August.
The victim, a woman in hers 20s, was sexually assaulted by a man, not believed to be known to her. She is currently being supported by specialist officers.
A man in his 20s from London has since voluntarily attended a police interview under caution. He has been released under investigation whilst enquires continue.
Detective Inspector Daniel Massey said: “Both the victim and suspect were on foot at the time of the incident. Local officers have been carrying out a number of enquires, since this allegation was first reported to us, including CCTV and house to house enquires, in order to identify the suspect.
”I’d also like to reassure the public that this matter is currently being treated as an isolated incident.
“I’d encourage anyone with any relevant information and anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and speak to police.”
