UPDATED: Serious house fire, Beacon Heath in Exeter

Detective Inspector Vicky Goff said: "In the early hours of Monday 5 April, firefighters from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and officers from the Devon and Cornwall Police attended the scene of a fire at an address in Beacon Heath, Exeter.

"Extensive fire damage has been caused to the property and the building remains unsafe. The 89-year -old resident is still unaccounted for.

"In order to locate her, the house will be demolished in a systematic and controlled way over the next few days, with consideration to the family, the local residents and the safety of all.

"A police cordon remains in place.

"This tragic incident appears to be accidental and no-one else is sought in connection with it.

"We are working with neighbours and the local community to minimise impact to them.

"The family are being supported by police and our thoughts are with them at this time."


Occupant unaccounted for at this time

In the early hours of Monday 5th April, firefighters from the Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service along with officers from Devon & Cornwall Police, attended the scene of a fire in Beacon Heath, Exeter. Extensive fire damage has been caused to the property and the building assessed as unsafe to enter at this time.

An 89-year-old female resident remains unaccounted for and a police cordon remains in place. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident.
