A man has been named

A man who died following a single vehicle collision in Torquay on Thursday 11 October has been named.

Police were first notified of the collision on Falkland Road at 3.30am last week after the vehicle was in collision with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Torbay District Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The rear passenger was taken to Derriford Hospital with a serious leg injury, he has since been released from hospital.

The front passenger of the vehicle, Andrei Zaharia, a 23-year-old Romanian national who was living in Torquay, sustained life-threatening injuries and was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin are being supported by a Family Liaison Officer.

A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A number of roads in the area were closed whilst emergency services attended the scene. The road was reopened at 1.30pm.
