Serious assault, Paignton


Man charged

A man has been charged following a serious assault on Gerston Road in Paignton on Sunday 8 July.

Police were notified in the early hours of Sunday morning to reports that a man had sustained a serious head injury after a serious assault.

The incident happened in the Town Centre at approximately 2.30am next to a takeaway on Gerston Road. This was the evening and early morning following the England versus Sweden World Cup football match and there would have been a number of people in the area at the time.

The victim, a 24-year-old local man, sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident. He was taken to Torbay Hospital and subsequently transferred to Derriford Hospital with a serious head injury where he remains.

Matthew Crosscombe, aged 26 from Paignton has been charged with wounding with intent and will appear before Plymouth Magistrate’s this morning, Wednesday 11 July.
