Appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information following a single vehicle collision in Tiverton.

Emergency services were called to the incident at 00:10am on Wednesday 8 August on Rackenford Road near Lurley.

 A blue Seat Leon left the road and was in collision with a hedge before coming to stop in a field. The vehicle then caught fire.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Tiverton, was arrested on suspicion of being unfit through drink and criminal damage. He was taken into custody and later released under investigation pending further enquiries.

The passenger, a 17-year-old girl sustained life-threatening burns as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital in Bristol for treatment.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact police on or call 101 quoting log 22 8 August.
