Appeal for witnesses

Police investigating a single vehicle collision involving an ambulance en route to an emergency call and a pedestrian on the A380 near Kingskerswell, in which a man died, are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.10am today [17 July].

A man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Torbay District Hospital but despite the efforts of medical staff, he died.

Both carriageways were closed for a time but the southbound carriageway has since reopened.

The northbound carriageway is expected to remain closed while investigations are carried out at the scene.

The police are working with the South Western Ambulance Service Trust to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision and would ask that people do not speculate about the cause.

The police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, has any information or dashcam footage which may have captured either the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to the collision that could help the police with their enquiries.

Please email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101, quoting log number 0191 of Saturday 17 July.
