Teenage boy arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm

Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a serious assault in St Ives in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

A man in his 20s suffered a serious head injury following an incident on The Terrace at around 1am.

A 17-year-old boy from the Penzance area has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. He has been released under police investigation while enquiries continue.  

The victim remains in Derriford Hospital in Plymouth in a stable condition. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Sergeant Allen Jordan said: “Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and have received an overwhelming response to our appeal for information.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance so far.”
