Cornwall police officers and staff commended at awards ceremony

Recognition of outstanding work, bravery and dedication

On Thursday 12 September 2019, Devon & Cornwall Police held an award ceremony celebrating the achievements of police officers, staff and members of the public across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.  

Over 25 police officers, members of staff, PCSOs and citizens were recognised for their outstanding work, bravery, professionalism and selfless actions relating to incidents that had taken place across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly in the past 12 months.

The awards were presented by Chief Superintendent Jim Pearce, Superintendent Ian Drummond - Smith, Temporary Superintendent Mark Bolt and Detective Superintendent Sharon Donald at a ceremony in County Hall, Truro.  

SUPERINTENDENT’S CERTIFICATE

PS Nichola Green, PC Tony Hemphill
PS Nichola Green and PC Tony Hemphill were awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for their quick thinking, bravery and determination to save a man from taking his own life.
 

Police Community Support Officer Shaun Harvey 
Police Community Support Officer Shaun Harvey was awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for his bravery and professionalism, and effectively diffusing a difficult situation to prevent an individual from seriously injuring himself.

Licensing Officer Sue Edwards
Licensing Officer Sue Edwards was awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for her outstanding work and dedication to duty and helping make towns across the county safer. 

PC Jonathan Stutley
PC Jonathan Stutley was awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for his calmness and professionalism during a challenging domestic abuse incident in Torpoint. 

PC Lewis O’mahoney and PC James Brooker
PC Lewis O’Mahoney and PC James Brooker were awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for their courageous, selfless and assertive action to prevent a young girl taking her own life at Tolcarne Point, Newquay.

DC Neil Goldsmith and DC Lara Turner
DC Neil Goldsmith and DC Lara Turner were awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for their dedication to duty after disturbing a robbery in a shop and preventing further injury to staff, members of the public and the suspect whilst working out of force and off duty.

DC Mick Duffy
DC Mick Duffy was awarded a Superintendent’s Certificate for his high level of commitment and investigative skills to ensure a suspect was convicted of three counts of sexual activity with a child.

 

CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENDATION

PS Jonathan Hamley, PC Christopher Coote, PC Timothy Davis and PC Michael Barnett
PS Jonathan Hamley, PC Christopher Coote, PC Timothy Davis and PC Michael Barnett were awarded a Chief Superintendent’s Commendation for their bravery and professionalism in dealing with an aggressive and abusive man who had self-harmed.

PC Christina Studholme
PC Christina Studholme was awarded a Chief Superintendent’s Commendation for her quick thinking actions which resulted in saving the life of another person.

 

GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD                                 

Terry Harry and Charlotte Harry
Terry Harry and Charlotte Harry were awarded a Chief Superintendent’s Good Citizenship Award for their courage and compassion when confronted with a challenging incident in which their actions prevented a young women from taking her own life.  

 

CHIEF SUPERINTENDENTS GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARDU

Mr Rikki Brandham
Mr Rikki Brandham was awarded a Chief Superintendent’s Commendation for his selflessness and prompt actions preventing a burglar from entering a neighbour’s property and detaining the suspect until the police arrived. 

 

THE HOLMAN TRAY

PC Christopher James
PC James was awarded The Holman Tray for 2018/2019 for his bravery in a dangerous situation, saving a man from drowning. 

 

THE BOLITHO STAFF

Temporary DS David Stamp
Temporary DS David Stamp was presented The Bolitho Staff for 2018/2019 for his consistent high standards, excellent contribution, leadership and support he has given to his colleagues throughout his career. 

 

THE KERNOW CUP

Police Cadet Leader George Bearns
Police Cadet Leader George Bearns was awarded the Kernow Cup for 2018/2019 for his dedication and service to the community. 

 

THE IAN WARNE MEMORIAL TROPHY

Inspector Ed Gard
Inspector Gard was awarded the Ian Warne Memorial Trophy for his professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty and the work he has done within St. Austell over the past 20 years.
