Vulnerable men assaulted in Tiverton

Can you help police locate Good Samaritan from Wellington?

Police are investigating an allegation of assault on two men with learning disabilities and their male carer in Tiverton.

The assault took place in People’s Park between 2.30-3pm on Wednesday 3rd August and it is believed that this was witnessed by several members of the public.

It’s alleged that a group of teenagers who had been in the park made a number of offensive comments towards the men with learning disabilities.

This then escalated and one of the vulnerable men and his 37-year-old carer were assaulted. The 51-year-old vulnerable man sustained a cut to his cheek and lip, the carer sustained bruising to his ribs and swelling to the face and head.

PC Zane McCormick said: “We believe there were a number of witnesses to the assault who we would like to speak to as part of our investigations.

“We would especially like to track down a woman who checked on the welfare of the victims immediately after the incident; she told the victims that she was visiting from Wellington but left before we had the chance to speak to her and she didn’t leave any contact details.

“We are desperate to track down this Good Samaritan as we believe she holds information vital to our investigation. We would also like to hear from any other member of the public who was in People’s Park around the time of the assault or who may have witnessed the incident itself.”
