Police appeal for witnesses after handbag is snatched

Police have appealed for witnesses after an elderly woman was robbed in Plymouth city centre.

The 86-year-old victim’s handbag was forced out of her grasp by a female in Derry’s Cross car park at around 1.30pm on Thursday 11 April.

The suspect ran off with the bag and was pursued by the victim’s husband, before she was stopped by members of the public.

The handbag was recovered, but the suspect made off and has not yet been identified.

She is described as a white female, aged in her 20s, with dark hair tied in a pony-tail, and was wearing a dark skirt and blue vest top. She had no shoes on at the time.

The victim was left very shaken and distressed by the incident and is recovering with her family.

Police have urged any witnesses to come forward and call 101, or email, with any information, quoting crime reference CR/31865/19.
