One dead following Barnstaple collision

Police have named a pedestrian who died following a serious collision on the A39.

Police were called at around 7.20am on Thursday 10 January following reports of a collision between a tipper truck and a pedestrian on the westbound carriageway of the A39, at the junction with Brynsworthy Lane, Barnstaple. 

Sally Horton, aged 59, died following the collision. Her family has paid the following tribute: 

“Sally Ann Horton was a beloved daughter, Wife, Partner, Mum, Sister, Niece and Aunt.

“Sally always lit a room up when-ever she walked in. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.”

Investigating officers continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam that could aid with police enquiries are asked to contact 101, quoting log number 0089 for 10 January.

A pedestrian has died following a collision in North Devon this morning.

Police were called at around 7.45am following reports of a collision between a tipper truck and a pedestrian near Brynsworthy Bickington, in Barnstaple

Closures were put in place in the area including on the A39 including at Westleigh, at Roundswell Roundabout and the Instow turn off to allow emergency services to work at the scene.

Tragically, a 59-year-old local woman died following the collision. Her next of kin have been informed.

Closures are expected to remain in place until the middle of the afternoon at the earliest as scene investigation work continues; road users are advised to avoid the area.
