Man arrested

At 8.49pm on Friday 8 June, police received a report of a man in Fleet Street, Torquay, who was in possession of a handgun.

As police were making towards the area, information was received via CCTV operators that the man was being challenged by the security guard from a local supermarket.

Police arrived within moments and the man was arrested for possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Two imitation firearms were recovered at the scene and the man was taken into custody. He has since been released under investigation pending further police enquiries.
