Parent’s tribute to son

The parents of Reuben Williams, aged 3, who tragically lost his life following a serious two-car collision in Totnes on Tuesday 20 December 2017 have paid tribute to their son.

His parents, who are local to the area, said: “We loved Reuben for being gentle, kind and cuddly. We loved Reuben for being excited, energetic and wild.

“He had an unquenchable thirst for discovery and knowledge, and loved nothing more than being held. He felt safe in our arms.

“He was our morning wake up call. He was our insect adventure. He was our snuggle-down movie time. He was our giggly tickle-lover. He was our bedtime milk and story.

“We have lost a piece that cannot be replaced.”

The parents have also expressed their appreciation of everyone’s love and good wishes and have been enormously touched by the support that they have received from both the Totnes area and the wider community.

Police are still seeking witnesses to the collision and urge the public to come forward. In particular, they would like to speak to the occupants of a white Transit type van with a trailer that was parked in a lay-by near to Fork Cross.

Emergency Services were notified at around 12.25pm on Tuesday 20 December to reports of a collision between a silver Honda Civic car and a Volvo on Plymouth Road in Totnes, between Fork Cross and Folaton Gate.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses who may have seen the silver Honda in the Kingsbridge, Modbury and Ermington areas on the morning of the collision.

Reuben and his mother were the only occupants of the Volvo when they were involved in the collision with the Honda.

A 30-year-old man from Brixham and a 38-year-old man from Torquay were arrested and released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue with their investigation and are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact police via or by calling 101 quoting log number 290 for 20 December 2017.
