Meet the new Police Commander for North, East and West Devon

Chief Superintendent Dan Evans began his new post this week having been announced as the new Commander for North, East and West Devon.

Chief Superintendent Evans is returning to the policing area where he started his career nearly 23 years ago. He said: “My first few years of policing were in Exeter so I have an emotional connection to the BCU, I’m so pleased to come back to the place where it all began. I know that the officers, staff, volunteers and partners that we work with are dedicated to keeping our communities safe, I’ m looking forward to being a part of that and leading the professional and dedicated teams that work in NEW Devon BCU.

“I’m very aware that it’s been a busy Summer, both in terms of some of the operational challenges faced by the BCU and also with the added pressure the COVID pandemic has brought. The ongoing health and wellbeing of our teams is going to be a priority for me, ensuring they are physically and emotionally well and have the right tools available to them to do their jobs to the best of their abilities”

Chief Superintendent Evans has worked in a variety of roles during his 23-year career. He has an operational policing background, having been Head of Specialist Operations, Head of Operations and Contingency Planning and Head of Criminal Justice and Custody. He also has a strong back ground in public order and firearms command.

He will be based in Exeter.
