Murder enquiry launched after assault victim dies, Par
Witnesses sought by police
Police have launched a murder enquiry after the elderly victim of a serious assault in Par, Cornwall, died in hospital.
Lesley Davies, aged 81 and from Par, sustained life-threatening head injuries after being assaulted in the street on the afternoon of Thursday 19 July.
She died as a result of her injuries at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth in the early hours of Saturday 4 August.
A 69-year-old man was arrested on 19 July on suspicion of attempted murder and has been bailed until 17 August. The man is currently sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains in a secure unit.
Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team are running a murder enquiry and appealing for any further witnesses to contact them.
Detective Inspector Ian Ringrose, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “There were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident. I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events before and after, to contact the police if they haven’t spoken to us yet.
“The police are continuing to work closely with the victim’s family to provide support at this difficult time.”
