On October 27 2015 Zephyr, an organisation whose mission is to destroying organised crime, issued the below warning:

CCTV Vulnerability:

  • There are reports that hackers have turned their attention to using internet-connected CCTV cameras to launch Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
  • This is possible because CCTV camera operators are not changing default passwords on devices making them vulnerable to attackers.

Advice:

  • Any device which connects to a network is vulnerable.
  • Always ensure you change the default password to a strong password and update the operating system regularly.
