TV Licence Scam

TV Licence Scam Targeting Bank Details On The Rise, Warns Action Fraud

www.coventrytelegraph.net, 14/09/2016

Authorities in Coventry and Warwickshire have warned residents about a new scam targeting local television viewers.

Fraudsters are taking advantage of changes to TV Licences in a bid to gain the personal details of those targeted by the scam, the Coventry Telegraph reports.

The scammers send out genuine-looking emails purporting to come from TV Licensing.

The messages are designed to steal victims' bank account details, by offering recipients a refund over TV Licence payments. The scammers say they need bank details to be updated before the refund can be released.

TV Licensing has confirmed it will not contact anyone by email about refunds.
