The South West Police Procurement Service have provided the following information.
We have provided annualise data but had to vary the timeframe slightly as this then aligns with the Contract we have in place (we did not have a formal contract in place to record this data in Apr/May 22).
1. How much did your force spend on interpretation/translation services for 2022/2023 financial year?
From June 22 – May 23 Devon & Cornwall Police spent approximately £132k on language services
2. What were the top five languages where most costs were incurred?
From June 22 – May 23 the top 5 languages by spend for all languages services were:
- Romanian
- Polish
- Arabic
- Simplified Chinese
- Thai
3. If possible, please could you provide the answers solely for translation services.
From June 22 – May 23 Devon & Cornwall Police spent approximately £33k on Translation Services.
From June 22 – May 23 the top 5 languages by spend specifically for translation services were:

- Thai
- Spanish
- Slovak
- Arabic
