Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 24/6022
Version Date: 20/02/2024
The Resourcing & Development Department have provided the following information:
I kindly request details on whether Devon & Cornwall has specific training programs for police staff and officers tailored to male victims of domestic abuse.
Furthermore, if such training initiatives exist, I am interested in understanding the rationale behind their introduction.
Were there any specific incidents that prompted a reassessment of policy and procedures leading to the implementation of this specialised training?
There is no ‘specific’ training to address male victims, however neither do we ignore it. Domestic abuse happens along all spectrums of society and all genders, and we address that throughout the sessions. There are now 9 hours of domestic abuse training; this includes many types of data and delves into domestic abuse for all genders.
