Members of the public requiring fingerprints for visa applications, police clearance or good conduct certificates from abroad, can choose from the following options:
- Attend Police Headquarters at Middlemoor, Exeter. This service is available Monday – Friday 09.30 – 14.30 only. Appointments can be made by telephoning 01392 225125 during the opening hours.
- Alternatively, members of the public should attend their nearest Police Enquiry Office and ask the Enquiry Officer to make an appointment with a Police Officer (if available, a Police Officer will take the fingerprints at this visit).
- Or, to arrange a call back from the Enquiry Officer please email the 101 contact centre, with your contact details and the Police Enquiry Office you would like to visit.
Police Station Enquiry Offices are located at:

- Charles Cross, Plymouth
- Crownhill, Plymouth
- St Austell
Fingerprints taken for certain countries are not subject to VAT. These countries insist that fingerprints are taken by a police force and therefore there is no private competition for this service.
When you have your prints taken please let the officer know where you are visiting so that they can charge you correctly.
One set - £79.70
Additional sets thereafter (for the same person) - £39.80 (each)
All other Countries: (subject to VAT currently 20%)
One set - £95.64
Additional sets thereafter (for the same person) - £47.76 (each)
Please note: There will be no reduction in cost for a single digit. The nationally agreed charge will be applied on every occasion regardless of the reason for application.
Important: Payment is made by cash only, a receipt will be provided.
You are required to bring photographic identification with you in order to use the service (photocopies will not be accepted).
You can bring either:
- Current passport or
- Photocard Driving Licence
Please bring any documents or paperwork provided by the requesting Country.
Applying for a Visa
When applying for a visa to live or work overseas, you may need checks carried out on the Police National Computer (PNC) and/or a copy of your fingerprints taken. The application process may vary depending on the country you are applying to. Please check the ACRO website for further information and access to any application forms that need completing.
