A separate annual delivery plan for addressing the gender pay gap within Devon & Cornwall Police has been developed to ensure focus is maintained in this area.
One of the key elements of this is to first encourage women to commence a career in policing, and we have already seen success in this area. Whilst we need to encourage women to join us, we also want to support those women who are already part of our organisation to progress their careers in order to close the gender pay gap. To help us to do this our Positive Action Team has developed a programme of support to assist police officers from all underrepresented groups to achieve success in the promotion process.
The programme has been widely commended across UK policing teams and was highlighted by the HeForShe UK Policing Leads as best practice, who included this work in the annual report and invited the Positive Action Lead to present programme at the annual HeForShe online conference.
During 2022/23 we will be developing a programme to support police staff career progression to help us further close the gender pay gap, we aim to roll it out in 2023.
