Our Force is the fourth largest in the UK by area and is the largest in England. As well as having a huge rural and coastal beat, we also police many urban areas. Exeter and Plymouth are major cities and large towns like Penzance, Torquay, Barnstaple, St Austell, Exmouth and Truro have their own character and issues. The Isles of Scilly are also part of our Force area and as a group of small islands 80 miles from the mainland they have their own distinct feel.
In addition, Devon and Cornwall attract millions of visitors every year to enjoy the spectacular scenery and sandy beaches. .
Census data shows the diversity of the counties of Devon and Cornwall has almost doubled in the last decade. The increase in diversity is being seen within Devon and Cornwall Police through recent recruitment, however we still have work to do to achieve a workforce that is truly reflective of the communities we serve.
