A group of National Citizen Service teenagers have joined forces with police and other agencies to design a new child sexual exploitation awareness campaign aimed at their peers.
CSE involves young people and children being 'groomed' and sexually exploited. It can take many forms, such as through an apparently 'consensual' relationship with an older person or a young person having sex in return for attention, gifts, cigarettes or alcohol.
Young people spent time over the summer learning about child sexual exploitation, gaining an understanding of the issue. Their feedback included highlighting the following important message:
Things we all need to know:
• Anyone can be a victim
• Young people can be exploited by someone their own age
• If a young person is missing from home or school, they become more vulnerable
Young people are encouraged to #SaySomething if they are worried about their own or other people’s relationships.
They can call or text 116 000 for free for help and support. http://www.dc.police.uk/1519
