Devon and Cornwall Alert
What is it?
Devon and Cornwall Alert is a free messaging service which is used to inform members of the public about crimes and incidents affecting their local area.
Messages are sent by telephone (recorded message on a landline), email or text message to individuals or groups/businesses who have signed up.
What can it be used for?
Messages can be targeted at individuals, specific groups such as Farm Watch or holiday accommodation providers, or a specific town, postcode, beat code, LPA and sector.
The service can be used for:
Appeals about crime and incidents in an area.
Local policing issues.
Crime prevention advice and action taken by police to tackle crime.
Information, events and opportunities to meet a local policing team.
Appeals for witnesses or help to trace missing or wanted people.
Warnings of bogus callers and burglaries in an area.
How do members of the public/businesses sign up to receive messages?
Members of the public and business are encouraged to register themselves on the alerts.dc.police.uk website by providing their name, address, email address and other contact details.
They can specify which times of the day they wish to receive a message and which categories would be of interest.
There are numerous categories and interests to choose from. For example, watch schemes, education, community safety and flood warnings.
