Constable – Forensic Collision Investigators – Bodmin & Exeter

Applications are invited from substantive Constables for the post of Forensic Collision Investigator.  Vacancies are anticipated at Bodmin & Exeter Forensic Collision Investigation Units.


The principal responsibilities of this role are to undertake investigations into road collisions involving death, life changing injury and/or major financial impact by carrying out detailed re-constructions of the incident.  This will assist in ensuring that the causes can be identified, prosecutions made (where appropriate) and improvements to the road, road management systems and vehicles can be recommended so as to reduce the incidence of such collisions.

You will need

Successful applicants will be advanced car drivers. They will be current practicing Forensic Collision Investigators with Part I and Part II City and Guilds in Police Collision Investigation and Reconstruction or equivalent De Montfort UCPD in Forensic Collision Investigation.

As well as the above formal qualifications, applicants must be able to demonstrate the below in their applications:

  • Knowledge of the College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice in relation to fatal and serious injury road collision investigation
  • An ability to collate and analyse information
  • An ability to compile detailed and/or technical reports
  • The motivation and ability to work unsupervised
