Stop & Search figures

On every occasion that a stop and search is conducted, the officer is required by law to make a record. These records are collated centrally and the force produces a range of data at force and local level.

This data includes the reason for the search, the gender, age and ethnicity of the person searched, and importantly, the outcomes.

This data is regularly monitored by the Force by local commanders and the Force Equality and Diversity Strategic Group, and by the external public scrutiny group.

Changes have been made to the level of data collected since 2012 and therefore some data is not available in the older reports. If you require any additional data, please request it through a Freedom of Information request available on this website.

Please see the Stop and Search glossary as an aid to the data reports which will explain commonly used terms.
