Version Date: 30/08/2024
The Alliance Finance Department, Performance & Analysis Department and Professional Standards Department have provided the following information.
I would like to know what percentage of arrests for domestic violence offences were actually charged with an offence in 2023?
Data Source:
Crime and arrest data from Niche
Data Processing:
Qliksense "Detainee Management" report, "Arrest Data" page, filtered on:
Month Year: "Jan-23" to "Dec-23";
Domestic Abuse (Occurrence): "Yes".
Data exported.
Qliksense "Crime & Outcomes" report, filtered on:
Notifiable Crime Only: "No";
Status: "Outcome Assigned";
Outcome List:
1: Charged
1: Summonsed/postal requisition
1A: Alternate offence charged
1A: Alternate offence summonsed/postal requisition
Chart Builder populated and data exported.
Further processing:
Detainee Management export: duplicates removed on Custody ID to get the number of arrests where Domestic Abuse occurrences are listed.
Crime & Outcomes export matched into original Detainee Management export, based on OccurrenceID.
Data without a match removed, to leave Arrests with Domestic Abuse Occurrences listed where those Occurrences have been Charged.
Duplicates removed on Custody ID to get the number of such Arrests where at least one Domestic Abuse Occurrence has been Charged.
Data Limitations:
Data depends on the Occurrences being correctly listed on the Custody Record.
Please note we do not record data in percentages, therefore, this has not been provided.
There were 7073 arrests in 2023 which had Domestic Abuse Occurrences listed. Of these, 982 arrests had at least one charge for a Domestic Abuse offence.
