Misconduct and speeding

The Professional Standards Department and Road Safety Team have provided the following information.

1 Devon and Cornwall Police misconduct hearings 2025
Clarification: asking for the number of misconduct hearings in 2025

6 Hearings have been completed

Currently 18 are scheduled or provisionally scheduled 

2 how many Police speeding in marked cars but not on blue lights
Clarification: in 2025

From 01/01/25 to 05/06/25 there have been 85 recorded instances of police vehicles traveling in excess of the speed limit.  

Please Note: there is no requirement in Section 87(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to display blue lights when using an exemption.

Section 87(1) states that no statutory provision imposing a speed limit on motor vehicles shall apply to any vehicle on an occasion when it is being used for fire and rescue authority, for ambulance purposes or police purposes, if the observance of that provision would be likely to hinder the use of the vehicle for the purpose for which it is being used on that occasion 

3 is the Police safety team camera van tracked on their speed every day

All Police Speed Detection Vans have Telematics fitted which allows their speed and location to be tracked.
