Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FOI/25/008627/C
Version Date: 26/08/2025
The Executive Department have provided the following information.
At approximately 10:15 this morning, Tuesday 30th July 2025, we encountered a small group of cyclists on the B3174 Holyhead Road heading towards Beer.
Unusually, this small group of Cyclists enjoyed an escort of two Police Motorcyclists, one at the head of the column and another at the rear. I would like to know:- 1. Why were these Cyclists given such special treatment? And, 2. Don't your "hard pressed" Officers have more important duties to attend to?
This was a police charity ride, organised for Care of Police Survivors.
The police motor-cycle outriders accompanied the cyclists due to a request from the national organisers of the event which in turn was due to safety concerns expressed by the national organisers.
This request was accommodated on the strict understanding that providing those assets had no impact on operational policing.
