Data Limitations:
- It is important to note, some offences may have more than one hate type attached.
- A person’s religion is not identifiable in the reports used. To determine this, all offences would need to be reviewed, putting the request over-fees. We were however, able to include hate types (which includes any hate flag attached to a crime) which may indicate the victim’s religion based on perceived hate type.
- It is also worth noting that a victim may be victim of more than one hate offence within the time period.
- Alongside the crimes found using the hate crime flag, there are several offence descriptions which relate to racial or religiously motivated offences which may provide more data. However, there is no way to differentiate the offences from racial related, or religion related, other than manually reviewing each offence or by using the hate crime flag, where this is recorded.
- For the purpose of this request, we have included any offence description involving racially or religiously motivated offences, where the hate crime flag is attached and the hate type is religion.
- It is important to note, the hate crime flag is reliant on accurate inputting and recording by police officers.
