The Alliance Operations Department has provided the following information:
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 concerning the speed camera enforcement on the A38 within the Devon and Cornwall police jurisdiction.
I am seeking data for the past five years, or the most recent period available.
Request:
1. Speed camera installations ->
How many new speed cameras (including fixed, average speed, or mobile enforcement units) have been installed along the A38 since january 2019.
For each camera, if it is possible, please provide:
- Type of camera, whether it is fixed, average or camera van.
- Location (road section)
- Date of installation
2. Installation costs ->
- The total cost of installing each of the speed cameras (or average cost if individual breakdown is unavailable)
- Include any related maintenance costs if recorded.
3. Outcomes
- How many speeding offences were detected by speed cameras on the A38 in each year from 2019 to 2025 (or the latest available data)
- How many drivers were referred to speed awareness courses?
- How many remain unpaid or unresolved?
4. Highest recorded speeds detected?
- If you can please provide the top three highest speeds recorded by speed cameras on the A38 over the same period , along with the general locations and dates please.

As the A38 is a fast road, speed enforcement session is most likely completed from a van. If on an overbridge, speed enforcement could have taken place on foot having travelled by motorcycle or from a police vehicle. Without looking into each batch, it would be impossible to distinguish and would be over fees to do so. The cost of a mobile enforcement site at these locations is £0.
