Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FOI/25/8785
Version Date: 25/09/2025
The Road Safety Team have provided the following information:
We have taken out all blue light activations as whilst some resulted in NIP’s that were then discontinued due to legal exemption, the vast majority do not get issued NIP’s as we can see the blue light. To include Blue light NIP’s that were later no further actioned would give incorrect data
How many Notices of Intended Prosecution (NIPs) for speeding were issued to drivers in the financial years (a) 2022/23 (b) 2023/24 and (c) 2024/2025.

As of the 1st September 2025 (or the closest convenient date), how many AI-enabled cameras, which can provide evidence to assist in the prosecution of road traffic offences, are currently sited on roads within your area of responsibility?
Currently 1
From these AI-enabled cameras, how many Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) have been distributed? Please break down the data by calendar month from the start of their operation and broken down by the type of offence that was registered? Eg, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, etc.
Data not held on a monthly basis; They are not provided in a searchable format via the portal.
4276 NiP’s issued for mobile phone use and 7034 NiP’s for no seatbelt.
These figures date back to 2023.
To manually check each of the 11,310 offences would exceed the appropriate limit under Section 12 of the FOI Act.
Please indicate whether you will be launching or increasing the number of AI-enabled cameras on your roads, and when this is expected to be, and how many AI-cameras you expect to install.
Increasing but no numbers or dates confirmed.
