Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FOI/26/009641/Z
Version Date: 24/03/2026
The Performance & Analysis Department has provided the following information:
Data Processing:
Missing person reports recorded on crime information system - NICHE
Cancelled crimes excluded, Non notifiable crimes excluded
Qliksense Report: Misper dashboard
Filtered by reported date: November 15th 2022 to December 31st 2025
Data Limitations:
Due to a change in recording systems, data prior to November 14th 2022 is unavailable.
It is important to note, a unique individual may be reported missing more than once and may cross over into different years where more than one missing episode is reported.
"Currently missing" flag/status is based on data as of March 9th 2026.
"Currently missing" flag/status only applies to reports made within the selected timeframe and does not necessarily represent the number of people currently missing.
Can you please provide me with the Annual Statistics for reported missing persons cases from 2015-2025. I am seeking to understand how many were reported in each year.
Between November 15th 2022 and December, there were 27,336 missing person reports made. This involved 11,292 unique individuals.
The following breaks the 27,336 missing person reports down by year and current missing status.
It is important to note, this is the number of reports, not the number of people.
Secondly, can you please provide me with statistics of how many in the same period from 2015-2025 were finalised and how many remained opened and unsolved.
