Data Limitations:
Data prior to 1 January 2021 is not available in the report used - for consistency, the report used is the same report used when collecting data for Op Opal.
Data provided to Op OPAL has changed several times since D&C started providing data in March 2024, due to the changing requirements of Op Opal.
Whilst the initial dataset was provided to Op Opal in March 2024, this did consist of data covering January 2024 onwards.
At present (25/02/2026), the offence descriptions required for the datasets for Op Opal are: Theft from shops and stalls, Robbery – Business and Burglary business and community.
It is important to note, these are specific offences that fall within larger categories - for example, Burglary Business and Community is one specific offence out of approximately 16 offences, that falls within the overall offence group of Burglary - Business and Community.
For the purpose of this request, six offence descriptions involving attempted burglary, conspire to and aiding burglary have been excluded.
Data Output:
Between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2025, there were 7525 crimes recorded of burglary business and community (excluding attempt, conspire and aid).
The table breaks this down by year and offence description.
The offence highlighted, is one of the three offences provided to Op Opal (the other two offences required for Op Opal are Theft from Shops and Stalls and Robbery - Business and Community, are not required for this request).

I know that the above stats are held as they have been given to Opal for internal purposes and have been advised by the NPCC to apply for them via an FOI of every police force.

Between March 2024 and 25 February 2026, there were 2961 offences of burglary business and community reported to Op Opal.
There were 1628 offences in 2024 and 1333 in 2025.
